I would like you to do a little experiment with me and flash forward 100 years. So, it's like the year 2123 and here are some undeniable facts. We will all be buried with our family and friends. Strangers will live in our homes that we worked so hard to build, and someone else will own everything we have today. Most of our possessions will have been given away or thrown out or destroyed and that car that we spent a fortune on, well, it'll be a rusted metal heap of s**t in a scrap yard somewhere. Our descendants will hardly know who we are or remember us. Now, say,"Wait a minute Mike, I will be remembered." Oh, yeah? Let me ask you a question, how many of you know your grandfather's father? Or your grandmother's mother? Let's face facts, after we die, we will be remembered for a few years and then we're just a portrait on someone's wall. And, if we were an as**ole during this journey called life, we won't even be remembered for a week. Then, a few decades later, our history, our photos, and all of our good deeds will have disappeared into oblivion and we won't even be a memory. Now, if you were to pause and really think about and analyze these questions, perhaps we would understand how pointless it is for us to worry about 95% of the s**t that consumes our mind on a daily basis. Now I'm not going to sit here and proclaim that I'm perfect at all this and have it all figured out. I, like all of us, am a work in progress but if we stop and think deeply about this, step back and reflect, surely our approach and our thoughts would change and we would do things differently. Perhaps we would feel more free to enjoy ourselves and the lives that we're living. Just maybe, we would step back and be grateful for some of the amazing things that we have in our lives. So, take these thoughts into the rest of today, this week, this year and try to remember"If it's not going to matter in 5 years don't spend more than 5 minutes on it." We only get one chance at this journey called life. Life, take 1! Be grateful for today and go live.
